Rahul Trivedi awarded ERC Starting Grant

Rahul Trivedi, Research Group Leader in our division awarded the prestigious ERC Starting Grant. The European Research Council will support his project Theory of Noisy Quantum Simulation of Many-body Physics (ToNQS) with €1.5 million over the next five years.

September 05, 2025

The project seeks to establish a theoretical foundation for evaluating the accuracy and performance of “noisy” quantum simulators—devices that reproduce complex quantum systems affected by unavoidable environmental interference. Since noise cannot be completely eliminated and error correction still requires vast resources, Trivedi’s team aims to develop mathematical tools to certify the reliability of these simulators under realistic conditions. Achieving this would validate their use and advance fields such as condensed matter physics, quantum optics, and high-energy physics, even before fully error-corrected quantum computers become a reality.
