Seminars and Events

Here you can find information on scheduled seminars and events in the Theory Division.

Besides conferences, workshops and project meetings, there are three weekly group seminars: The Theory Seminar, which features talks from PhD students in the group and invited visitors, as well as two internal weekly focused seminars on Quantum Many-Body Physics and Quantum Information and Computation.

EQUAHUMO Meeting

September 19, 2023

The EQUAHUMO Meeting will take place at the MPQ.
The goal of the project is to develope efficient quantum algorithms for Hubbard models above absolute zero. Thereby tasks shall be solved that cannot be solved with classical computers. more

Ana Asenjo García, Columbia University
Dissipation and fluctuations are known to be sources of order in complex non-linear systems formed by many agents, as they lead to the generation of self-organized spatial or temporal structures. more

Theory Seminar: Quantum Technology, Quantum Simulations, and Precision Measurements with Ultracold Strontium

Sebastian Blatt, QMBS division at MPQ
In the last two decades, quantum simulators based on ultracold atoms in optical lattices have successfully emulated strongly correlated condensed matter systems. more

Theory Seminar: An introduction to the strong edge zero modes

Maxine Luo, Theory Group MPQ
In some one-dimensional (1D) spin systems with open boundary conditions (OBC), such as the Ising/Kitaev chain and the XYZ chain, there exist strong edge zero modes (SZM). more

Theory Seminar: Exciton proliferation and fate of the topological mott insulator in a twisted bilayer graphene lattice model

Prof. Tao Shi, Chinese Academy of Science
Topological Mott insulating (TMI) state with spontaneous time-reversal symmetry breaking and nonzero Chern number has been shown to appear in a real-space effective model for twisted bilayer graphene (TBG) at 3/4 filling in the strong coupling limit. more

Theory Seminar: Scattering in the lattice Schwinger model

Irene Papaefstathiou, MPQ Theory
The lattice Schwinger model, which is Quantum Electrodynamics in one spatial dimension discretized on the lattice, was extensively studied with Tensor Network techniques. more
